RONALD RAND - FOUNDER, PUBLISHER & EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

A versatile actor/playwright, founded this Newspaper in 1998. He is currently in the midst of performing his internationally acclaimed solo play, “LET IT BE ART! Harold Clurman's Life of Passion,” as Harold Clurman, directed by Gregory Abels across America and the world, and teaches workshops at Universities across the globe. He will be appearing at The Mint Theatre in a new adaptation of "The Servant of Two Masters" directed by Stuart Vaughan, in the month of January, 2007. Recent performances of "LET IT BE ART! " include: two critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway runs (Arclight Theatre - produced by the Mirror Repertory Theatre, and at the Century Center), International Festival of Making Theatre (Athens, Greece), Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts (NYC), Seattle’s Actors’ International Retreat, University of Missouri-Columbia, Syracuse University,Georgian Internatiuonal Festival of Arts (Tbilisi, Georgia), the Last Frontier Theatre Conference (Valdez, Alaska), Jean-Claude van Itallie's Shantigar Retreat. Upcoming: Tucson’s Invisible Theatre (Arizona), Orange County Community College (Middletwon, NY), Anchorage’s Cyrano’s Theatre, Maggie Flanigan Studio, Ward Studio, and there are plans to bring the play to China.   "LET IT BE ART!” (a NYFA sponsored project) was also performed at Villanova University & the University of the Arts, The Players Club, Des Moines' Vaudeville Muse, The Actors Center, William Esper Studio, Penny Templeton Studio, New England Theatre Conference’s Annual Convention, Stella Adler Studio, NYU, Neighborhood Playhouse, and the Episcopal Actors Guild of America. He appeared with Marian Seldes, Elizabeth Ashley, Jayne Atkinson, Libby Skala, David Margulies, and Rosemary Harris in a program he created and co-produced (The Scheuer Series) at The Jewish Museum in New York City.  Mr. Rand began his acting career appearing in over 250 plays at a professional children’s theatre in Florida. His Off-Broadway debut in "Julius Caesar" at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with Richard Dreyfuss and George Rose, was followed by numerous  New York appearances including Hamm in "Endgame," directed by Joseph Chaikin; the lead in Goldoni’s "The Liar;" as the First Gravedigger in "Hamlet"; leads in several of Bernard Shaw’s plays; and all three male roles in "Perfect Crime" (two years).  Mr. Rand also toured for five months throughout Europe as the Fool in "King Lear," starred in "LUV" at The Barnstormers, N.H.; in the Classical Theatre of Harlem’s production of "Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom," directed by Arthur French; and Rudy Gray’s "Conversation with a Kleagle."   His television credits include (as  Roman Rybakov (the murder victim, with Mercedes Ruehl as his wife) on "Law & Order," "Third Watch," on PBS as Milton Sterns in "A Marriage – O’Keefe and Steiglitz" on American Playhouse, opposite Jane Alexander & Christopher Plummer; "Homeless" opposite Yoko Ono; on "Saturday  Night Live" (for 12 seasons); and has had roles on “All My Children,” “As the World Turns,” “One Life to Live,” and “Guiding Light.”  Mr. Rand also appeared in over 400 films, with roles including "The Emperor’s Club," "Maid in Manhattan," In & Out," "Jerky Boys," "Another You," "Rude Awakening," and "Quiz Show," directed by Robert Redford.  He studied with Stella Adler for over 5 years,  received a B.F.A. in Acting at NYU’s School of the Arts, and also studied with Harold Clurman.  He also counts among his mentors: Jerzy Grotowski, Joseph Chaikin, Richard Schechner, John Strasberg, Sabra Jones, and Bobby Lewis.  He studied at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.  As a playwright, Mr. Rand’s plays also include "Consequences," "Ode to the Moon," "The Site of Human Life," and "The Group!" about the life of the Group Theatre (World Premiere at Northern Illinois University).  "The Group!" was seen at The York Theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre, and at The Actors Studio.  Mr. Rand has been an invited Guest Professor and has taught throughout the world and across America: Rustavelli State University (Tbilisi, Georgia), International Festival of Making Theatre (Athens, Greece), University of Missouri-Columbia, The Actors Center, Last Frontier Theatre Conference (Alaska), Northern Illinois University, Norfolk’s Governor’s School for the Arts, GATE, Blair-Montgomery High School, and at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.  At The Players, he produced Ruby Dee, Irene O'Garden and Sandy Rochelle in "An Evening of Exceptional Poets," "An Evening with Vijay Tendulkar," Libby Skala's "LiLiA!," "Vivien Leigh", "H.L. Mencken," "Cirque Jacqueline," Vinie Burrows as "Rose McClendon," Karen Eterovich in "Jane Austen," and new plays by Dale Wasserman and Ty Jones. Mr. Rand’s play, “Consequences” was given a Staged Reading by the Nebraska Repertory Theatre at Edward Albee's 2006 First Great Plains Theatre Conference (Omaha).  He is a member of The Actors Studio Playwright/Directors Unit and The Dramatists Guild. Committed to the vision of his teachers, Harold Clurman and Stella Adler, he created this newspaper, “The Soul of the American Actor.”
